St Elizabeth’s Church (Minsteracres, Northumberland), Chancel – conservation and restoration of Victorian stencil scheme.
Posted: April 18, 2020The parish of St Elizabeth's Church on the Minsteracres Estate commissioned Scottish Wall Paintings Conservators to carry out conservation/restoration treatment on a Victorian stencil scheme. The scheme was first discovered when partially-detached lining paper was removed from the Chancel walls. The plaster substrate had extensive mechanical damage, historic salts damage and missing decoration, and the paint surface was completely covered with adhesive remains and lining paper fragments. -
Georgian mansion restoration: conservatiion of selected original elements
Posted: April 16, 2020The mansion underwent a major restoration over a 4 year period. FCH brought in a small team to conserve selected elements of detail which required conservation and restoration. This included treatment to a variety of objects and materials including stone, wood, plaster, leather and metals with final surface treatments and decoration. -

Katharinenhof, Hamburg, Germany: Restoring the ‘Charity’ window
Posted: April 15, 2020Barley Studio's dedicated team of conservators, artists and craftspeople, led by Managing Director and Head Conservator Keith Barley, have restored a fine Georgian glasspainting to its former glory, following its near destruction in the bombing of Hamburg during the Second World War. -

All Saints Church, Low Catton, York: Conserving and Protecting the Morris Company East Window
Posted: April 15, 2020This beautiful nineteenth-century window by the Morris Company was covered in green algae, which was exacerbating problems of paint loss. The window was removed, carefully cleaned and reinstalled with internally ventilated environmental protective glazing (EPG) to keep the glass dry and prevent future algal growth. -
