Michael Rieveley

During a major refurbishment project of the public baths by Hull City Council we were called in by the main contractor to carry out conservation of the extensive decorative and original ceramic elements within the building. There were a number of rooms with Art Nouveau tiling which required attention along with large areas of glazed- brick walling that was in similar need.

Unfortunately there were some areas of the tile and faience where extensive damage and loss had occurred. The replacement with use of replica tiles was considered to be the best option in these instances. At Rieveley Ceramics, having facilty to make these and colour match glazes in order to acheive the best possible finished result we carried out this phase of the project. Then went on to carry out the onsite conservation repair work to the tile and glazed-brick.

A large and complex series of problems making it a challenging, interesting and ultimately satisfying project which despite the extra difficulties imposed due to Covid restrictions was completed within time.
