Due to the road closure and necessary diversions in place because of the access scaffolding, works were carried out in a single, continuous phase to minimise traffic disruption.  The memorial was cleaned first, using a range of techniques and materials. Defective pointing was replaced before a shelter-coat was applied to sculptural elements.  Protections were applied to both to ensure mortar products dried slowly and as anticipated.  Finally the incised, stone dedication panel on the east elevation was re-decorated after the scaffold was removed.
