The gesso was badly damaged and the table (a pair) had been covered in gold paint.  The base of one table was loose and needed repair.  Some of the pine carvings were damaged and new timber was spliced in and re-carved accordingly. This was stripped off and gesso repaired using gesso and rabbit skin glue.  After rubbing down bole was applied in areas to be highlighted and the whole again smoothed down  with fine emery paper and polished with 0000 wire wool. The whole was then re-gilded with 23 cwt Italian gold leaf.
