The portrait of John Wilton is a very rare full length, life size portrait of a servant. The portrait was painted in 1729 by Mr Whitmore, a painter-stainer by trade. The painting is oil on canvas, previously lined (wax-resin). The treatment included surface cleaning, varnish removal, consolidation of paint layers, varnishing, filling and retouching.
