Cleaning and flattening of parchment documents
Over the last 30 years I have worked on hundreds of parchment and vellum documents, ranging from large property and title deeds and ennoblement documents to medieval manuscript illuminations, watercolours and drawings.

Paper conservators are usually approached to flatten, clean and restore old vellum and parchment documents, although working on them does require a different set of skills from that of paper. The gentle and considered application of moisture is usually required to unlock aged, stiff and hardened skins, although too much wetting will ruin them.
