Director and senior conservator, T.L. Phelps, Fine Furniture Restoration, assisted by two full-time conservators.  Practice established 1984. Now the region’s leading specialist furniture and historic interiors woodwork restoration and conservation studio in the north of England and beyond.  ICON trained and practising Accreditation Assessor.

I work with great care, knowledge, skill and integrity on items that range from top museum pieces, through modest provincial work, to modern and well-loved family items.  Recent commissions include tidying and waxing full 17th century oak-panelled main first floor room for Historic England at Newcastle’s Bessie Surtees House, ongoing maintenance and repair of library cabinet doors and locks at the John Rylands Library, Manchester, and Mousey Thompson oak tables for private collectors.

I am experienced in handling all aspects of insurance work, including water, fire, smoke and transit damage.  I offer skilled appraisal of historic pieces, providing condition reports, treatment proposals and estimates.  Private enquiries welcome.
