Hull Maritime Museum and it’s contents are undergoing a three year £11m refurbishment as part of the Hull:Yorkshire’s Maritime City Project.  The maritime paintings at the museum were just a small part of the collection to be inspected and re-located and a selection of paintings and frames were identified as in need of conservation and preparation for public display.  Those 32 historic frames received a variety of treatments, predominantly cleaning and consolidation, but also in many cases needing decoration, surface and structural repair as well as the addition of back-frames or build-outs to accommodate new glazing.  I also provided reproduction period frames for two previously unframed paintings.
