Seal Gut Parka
Conservation of a Arctic seal gut parka for the Mayflower exhibition at Worcester City Art Gallery and Museum. The parka was cleaned, reshaped and damaged areas were supported with removable fills. A lightweight mount from Fosshape™ was also produced to better support the delicate object.

The parka is made from horizontal strips of marine mammal intestine sewn together in a horizontal pattern using tiny sinew stitches.
The aim of the was to return the parka to display in a physically stable condition. After testing, it underwent conservation cleaning to remove surface dusts and old surface treatments, the rips were filled with a removable material and new mount was produced which supported the delicate object.
