Sophie Reddington ACR
About Me
As a fully accredited Paintings Conservator, Sophie offers wide-ranging services to a diverse list of clients focussing on a museum-standard approach. Through conservation she preserves artwork, stabilising the existing materials to avoid further deterioration. Through restoration, she returns the art to its original condition and meaning.
Sophie believes that excellent conservation and restoration is based on fundamental ethical theories. She maintains the utmost respect for art objects and takes the responsibility of working with them extremely seriously. For Sophie, good conservation and restoration is about achieving the most with minimal intervention and finding the best possible solution for each individual painting.
Sophie works on projects, small and large, both in the UK and internationally. She balances her studio work with working onsite, e.g. at the Royal Oak Foundation Conservation Studio at Knole, National Trust, other historic houses or the V&A Conservation Studio in London, however she has been increasingly based in her new studio in Hove. She relishes the opportunities to have worked with organisations such as the National Trust, English Heritage and the V&A; firmly believing that the varied experiences and projects lead to continuous personal development. Through frequent interaction with colleagues, Sophie is keeping up to date with new developments and research.
After running a studio in London for many years home is now Hove near Brighton where she lives with my husband and children. She has set up a brand new studio which meets all the requirements for security and safety. But she still works in London regularly and clients send their paintings here.
Her services include a focus on long-term stability. Not only does Sophie conserve and restore paintings, but she also advises clients on environmental control and display strategies, which ultimately lead to damage prevention.
