About Me
I am an Accredited Conservator with more than 25 years' experience in the investigation and conservation of cultural heritage objects. A deep knowledge of collection care and preventive conservation gained through practical application in museums has enabled me to provide pragmatic and appropriate advice to heritage institutions and individuals alike. I have extensive experience teaching and training on conservation-related topics, to audiences from emerging conservation professionals, to museum professionals, to non-conservator interest groups such as metal detectorists, and volunteers. With non-conservators I value a focus on communicating the technical complexities of conservation work and its role in increasing public access to heritage, while enabling non-conservators to contribute to the care and conservation of their heritage.
I act as an Assessor for the Institute of Conservation's Professional Accreditation of Conservator-Restorers framework, and am also a Trustee and Conservation Advisor to the Glencoe Folk Museum.
Borders Conservation Studio operates from a fully equipped, secure conservation studio, and, where appropriate, in situ at the historic property or museum. Flexibility, responding to urgent requests, and meeting difficult project deadlines are services I take pride in.
Services: Remedial conservation of objects made of inorganic and organic materials; collections and conservation management plans; condition assessment of collections; advice on display conditions; design of controlled microclimates; safe packaging and transport of fragile objects; storage solutions.
