About Me
I have been an easel paintings conservator for over 30 years since receiving my post-graduate diploma in the Conservation of Easel Paintings at the Courtauld Institute in London. Following a Getty funded internship, I have worked in the private sector in Scotland, gaining wide-ranging experience in the structural and aesthetic treatment of paintings dating from the 15th century to recently executed works.
In 2003, together with my colleague Henry Matthews, I set up Egan, Matthews & Rose (EMR). EMR carries out all aspects of structural work, cleaning and restoration of easel paintings, including works on fabric, wood and metal supports. We are experienced in working on site, on outsize paintings and large collections. Collection surveys and loan reports are also undertaken, and we welcome enquiries from those seeking advice on any aspect of the care of easel paintings.
Training
BSc (Hons) First Class, Chemistry, University of Dundee, 1982-1986. Diploma in the Conservation of Easel Paintings, Courtauld Institute of Art, University of London, 1986-1989. John Paul Getty funded internship at Kelvingrove Art Gallery, Glasgow and the Conservation Studio, Hopetoun House, South Queensferry, 1989-1990.
