About Me
Francis Downing trained in Italy, Bari and Rome working on and conserving paintings from Italian and European Renaissance to present day. The Studio was established in 1976 and today cares for and conserves paintings from Galleries, Public and Private Institutions, churches, Historic houses and private clients throughout the UK and Europe.
From 1989 to 1997 Francis worked with North Yorkshire, UK and European police through Interpol, identifying forgeries and investigating networks.
Francis Downing is an Accredited Conservator and a member of Icon (Institution of Conservation), BAPCR, (British Association Painting Conservators-Restorers), ACS (Association of Consulting Scientists), ASC (Association of Security Consultants), IGIIC (Gruppo Italiano International Institute for Conservation) and is a committee member of the YCCC (York Consortium for Conservation and Craftsmanship). He is an Associate Lecturer on the Conservation of Fine Art MA Degree Course at Northumbria University.
