The visual assessment revealed that the volume was in fairly good condition. The main areas of concern were the partially detached cover and tears to the original endpaper joint. The text block did not have and damage just some surface dirt.

The cloth cover had areas of damage, generally wear and tear in the head and tail of the spine and to the corners of the front and back covers. 

The spine lining was replaced with Japanese paper and extended each side to be fed u dear the endpapers in order to reattach the cover. Toned Japanese paper was placed on the endpaper to seal the joint and to stabilise and allow for the movement of the cover boards. 
The spine was stabilised inside the head and tail with toned Japanese paper to prevent further damage.
